The themes of the drawing competition are:
The dangers of Cyberbullying
In a cross group evidence gathering session, hosted by the Youth Council with members of the Children in Care Council, Younger Children in Care Council and the Disabled Young People’s Council (‘AhA!’), the distinction between boundaries of ‘real’ and ‘cyber’ bullying was, by some children and young people, not understood in the same way as adults at the session. The line between ‘real’ and ‘cyber’ was described as “blurry”, “seamless”, with one young person adding “Adults need to know they don’t understand it like we do”. When we, as adults and professionals, talk about the dangers of cyberbullying we may not fully comprehend the reality of what children and young people face online today. We have therefore chosen this theme to further explore children and young people’s attitudes towards cyberbullying.
A day in the life of a young carer
In honour of Carers Week last June, the LSCB teamed up with young carers and staff from The Carer’s Centre to produce a special bulletin for professionals to promote awareness of young carers living in our city. Amongst advice and tips for supporting young carers the bulletin included an interview between two young people, each telling their caring stories to one another. It was humbling and evident that positive and negative effects can be experienced because of caring responsibilities. The Board would like to see and listen more to the challenges these young people face in providing help and support to a loved one and this is why it has been chosen as a theme.
I am a young person with a disability
Children and young people with disabilities are more vulnerable to abuse or neglect and they have additional needs that must be met if they are to be properly safeguarded. Data shows us that young people with disabilities face many more challenges than their non-disabled peers. During our LSCB multi-agency training delegates are asked to consider particular vulnerabilities for disabled young people and the Board would like to include images submitted in this category as a talking point in training.
The closing date is 27 March 2015.
Entries should be drawn, painted or computer aided on no bigger than an A4-size of paper, with the original being sent – along with a name (although anonymous submissions are accepted), age, school details, plus a contact telephone number or email address, to:

Please note photos and films must not be submitted.
Joint submissions are accepted and more than one entry can be submitted. Non-winning entries may also be used on an online gallery and any LSCB materials (this can include, but is not limited to, LSCB Newsletters, Training materials, leaflets and posters). The LSCB reserves the right to remove entries from the competition if they are deemed inappropriate or offensive.
