Tuesday 10th February 2015 is Safer Internet Day which sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. It asks us all to consider how we can create a better internet together, and celebrate the opportunities cyberspace creates whilst ensuring we stay safe online.

Internet Matters is a great website that helps parents talk to their children about online safety and explain parental controls and different technologies www.internetmatters.org

Net Aware is the NSPCC’s site for parents developed with Mumsnet, which explains all the most popular social networks, and how to stay safe on them, from Yik Yak to Spotify via Moshi Monsters, www.net-aware.org.uk

Parenting in the Digital Age is a good website to help parents be involved in their child’s digital life and equip them with the safety skills needed to navigate this www.pitda.co.uk

Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre works to eradicate the sexualabuse of children, tracking and bringing offenders to account either directly or in partnershipwith local and international forces. ClickCEOP is a Facebook application that helps topromote safer Internet use when using Facebook, and their website has lots of good advice www.ceop.gov.uk
The ThinkUKnow website, run by CEOP, provides are range of online videos and games toeducate children and young people about safer internet use. It has sections for children aged 5-7, 8-10 and 11+, as well as advice for parents and carers. They also provideresources targeted for schools as well. www.thinkuknow.co.uk
Childnet International is a children‘s charity whose mission is to help make theinternet a great and safe place for children. They have developed a range of award-winning websitesand resources to help provide children, parents & teachers with the information and skills they need touse the internet safely and responsibly. The Know IT All for parents contains advice for parents and carers, and a special section for children and young people. www.childnet-int.org
