Our Child Sexual Abuse & Harmful Sexual Behaviours conference in May 2015 was attended by over 150 professionals and examined the issues around Child Sexual Abuse & Harmful Sexual Behaviours. There was a very busy agenda for the day and participants heard about multi-agency investigation of CSA, the complexities of the legal issues, and the procedures for CSA medicals. There was a presentation on the internet and online abuse from Sussex Police, and we were pleased to be joined by Ruth Marchant from Triangle, who provide intermediary services and advocacy for young children and children with complex needs nationally. Her inspiring presentation “How Young is too Young” challenged barriers to communicating with under 5s to get evidence about sexual abuse, and was followed by a more indepth seminar on Developmentally Appropriate Interviewing aimed at those who undertake ABE interviews. There was also a thought provoking seminar on Post Abuse Therapy with a case study on integrated art therapy at the Claremont Family Centre, and a very popular discussion on Harmful Sexual Behaviours. Has needs met within universal provision. May need limited intervention within the setting to avoid needs arising.
Has additional needs identified within the setting that can be met within identified resources through a single agency response and partnership working.
Has multiple needs requiring a multi-agency coordinated response.
Has a high level of unmet & complex needs, or is in need of protection.
