On Monday 12 June Brighton & Hove will go live with the Child Protection-Information Sharing (CP-IS) system.
This is a government initiative which is intended to improve the way health and social care agencies work together across England to protect vulnerable children. CP-IS connects local authority children’s social work systems with those used by NHS unscheduled care settings, such as Accident and Emergency, walk-in centres and maternity units. It ensures that health and care professionals are notified when a child or unborn baby with a child protection plan (CPP) or looked after child status (LAC) is treated at an unscheduled care setting. If you want to find out more about the national implementation of CP-IS, please go to: https://digital.nhs.uk/child-protection-information-sharing
What is CP-IS?
Information Governance
The intention of CP-IS is not to replace any existing processes; to outline and/ or record reasons for why a child was in an unscheduled care setting, it will only confirm that someone had viewed the child protection information. Any processes where communication between health and social care teams currently exists will still be required, e.g. picking up the phone and sharing and recording any information where applicable.
If you have any questions about how CP-IS will be used in your setting please ask your safeguarding lead. Social Workers can find more information here

Has additional needs identified within the setting that can be met within identified resources through a single agency response and partnership working.
Has multiple needs requiring a multi-agency coordinated response.
Has a high level of unmet & complex needs, or is in need of protection.
