Join the Safeguarding Adults Board for this half day conference looking at how we can best work together to protect the most vulnerable residents of our city.

The day will open with a presentation on the learning from a recent Safeguarding Adult Review into X, a 59 year old who died in December 2014. X was an incredibly vulnerable individual with multiple support needs, and is probably one of the most challenging cases that professionals working with the homeless are likely to experience.

We will then be joined by Sanchita Hosali, Deputy Director, British Institute of Human Rights to discuss how a human rights perspective can contribute to safeguarding work and better outcomes for adults in need of safeguarding.  This presentation will draw upon the work over the last ten years by the British Institute of Human Rights to support organisations to put human rights at the heart of health and social care, including two current projects funded by Department of Health grants exploring rights-based approaches to mental health and mental capacity issues, working with both service providers and advocates.

This session is presented as part of the Learning Together to Safeguard the City Week where Brighton & Hove Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB), the Safeguarding Adults Board (SAB) and the Safe in The City Partnership Board come together to raise awareness of safeguarding issues and promote how we can best work together to protect, and improve outcomes for, the most vulnerable in our society.

The aim of this week is to reveal and debate some of the most important issues in our city which affect individuals, their families and the wider community, as well as exploring the responsibilities of professionals in their everyday work and their contribution in keeping people safe and well.

All sessions can be booked through the Brighton & Hove Learning Gateway: learning.brighton-hove.gov.uk
